With a little bit of scripting, this can definitely be done. We have some customers with websites, built on top of the EMS, which have very similar functionality. The EMS has a runtime API that is exposed over HTTP, so a very simple webpage or smartphone app could easily manipulate the server (start playback, pause, jump back-forward, record, etc…). The EMS does not come on any particular piece of hardware, it is purely a software application. To use TV remotes, you would need some sort of infrared receiver.
