Answer for Understanding HLS segments creation

Hi Don, Thanks for the reply. I have tried your solution, and it did solve the "rolling" behavior that I was seeing. On the other hand, I still have an issue when I play this HLS stream on an iOS device. What happens is that the beginning of the video is truncated, as if the playing was starting at segment #2, or at least not exactly at beginning of segment #1. I have looked at the http requests sent from the iPad (using fiddler as a proxy to capture traffic), and I can see that the first segment is requested and sent to jwplayer. as a side note, I’m also currently evaluating Wowza media server, and with their product the HLS stream is flawless. I’m not saying the problem is caused by EvoStream server, as it could very well be my parameters at fault. Right now I’m issuing these two commands: createhlsstream localstreamnames=toto bandwidths=128 targetfolder=/home/ groupname=hls playlisttype=appending chunklength=10 pullStream uri=rtmp:// keepAlive=0 localstreamname=toto This creates those files in /home/ drwxr-xr-x 2 evostreamd 4096 Sep 9 11:01 . drwxr-xr-x 3 evostreamd 4096 Sep 9 10:59 .. -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 1010 Sep 9 11:02 playlist.m3u8 -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 1181768 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_10.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 505156 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_11.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 842052 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_12.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 230676 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_13.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 234248 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_14.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 257560 Sep 9 11:02 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_15.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 444808 Sep 9 10:59 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_1.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 425444 Sep 9 10:59 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_2.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 230300 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_3.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 230112 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_4.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 591260 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_5.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 523204 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_6.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 272036 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_7.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 1006928 Sep 9 11:00 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_8.ts -rw-r–r– 1 evostreamd 351184 Sep 9 11:01 segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_9.ts and this is the content of the playlist file: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:10 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:1 #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2014-09-09T13:13:35+00:00 #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_1.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_2.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_3.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_4.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_5.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_6.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_7.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_8.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_9.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_10.ts #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2014-09-09T13:15:15+00:00 #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_11.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_12.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_13.ts #EXTINF:10, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_14.ts #EXTINF:7, segment_1410274771106_1410274771106_15.ts #EXT-X-ENDLIST To be noted, there is also another playlist file in /home/ #EXTM3U #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=128 toto/playlist.m3u8 I hope this can help you figure out why the beginning of my HLS stream gets truncated. Cheers
