rtsp and vlc
Hi,
I’m trying evostream in rtsp mode.
I put a file into /var/evostreamms/media, and manage to see it with vlc:
rtsp://172.16.215.2:5544/vod/mp4:mymovie.mp4
(in fact I tried with several videos and get the same behaviour)
1/ some lag/frame drop with VLC
But I have something odd: with vlc, it is lagging a bit at the beginning of the movie (let’s say the first 20% of the movie). After that, it works better and smoothly.
I don’t have the same behaviour when the movie is served with wowza (where I use url rtsp://172.16.215.2:1935/vod/_definst_/mp4:mymovie.mp4), or the problem is smaller and I don’t see it.
I checked with wireshark, both communicate in RTSP.
2/ filesize
Also, when I use VLC or Wowza, I don’t get the same initial size (inital size=24M, what I get~=15M in both case)
– with Wowza: 15730317 bytes
– with evostreamer: 15724081 bytes
Ok I have a 6k difference, not a big deal, so frames should not have been dropped (I guess)
3/ with android: ok
When I use some android devices, I don’t have the lagging problem.
Ok, the problem is mainly with VLC, and our target is more android devices, but I was wondering why such (small) differences.
Can it be my video, which is not in a standard profile or not well encoded?
Thanks
Nicolas Zin
